01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

At lunchtime, it can be hard to choose between pad Thai and pho. Diners who have tried both say they offer different ways to enjoy noodles. Pad Thai is a Thai-style stir-fried rice-noodle dish; the set comes with an appetiser plate and soup for 1,200 yen. For a bowl with broth, the pho with clam and prawn soup is also served as a set, with an appetiser plate and rice, for 1,200 yen. The pho is a light soup noodle with a savoury clam-based broth, a pleasing choice when you want to savour the broth as you eat. One diner who ordered the chilled soy-milk tantan noodles from the daily lunch menu described a flavoursome broth with a gentle heat; served cold, it made for a refreshing meal. The daily special is a dish to look forward to discovering on the day.

Lunch options go beyond noodles. There is gapao rice topped with a soft-boiled egg, nasi goreng and green curry made with plenty of coconut milk. Sets come with an appetiser plate or soup, so you can choose between a chicken mince rice dish and a curry-led meal. A diner who ordered the pad Thai also enjoyed the variety of appetisers, making the set a chance to savour each plate after choosing a main.

For a meal centred on Sichuan flavours, try the restaurant’s signature shibire-dori: fried chicken seasoned with Sichuan peppercorn spices. It costs 800 yen as a main dish, or 1,300 yen as a lunch set with an appetiser plate, rice and soup. One diner said the chicken, chips and celery all had a satisfying bite, and that the spices made the rice especially moreish. They added that they still wanted to eat it regularly despite not being keen on spicy food—a useful point to bear in mind when choosing.

In the evening, you can order a few small plates or dim sum to enjoy with a drink. Yodare-dori, or “drool-worthy chicken”, is an appetiser of steamed chicken with Sichuan sauce. Homemade chilli oil and Sichuan peppercorns bring the flavour, and a soft-boiled egg can be added for 100 yen. Some diners particularly enjoy pairing the shibire-dori with a Dragon Highball. Whether you want a full meal or a little of this and that, the menu lets you put together an order to suit.
